Porsche introduced the new Porsche 911 (992) cup car last year. Teams participating in Carrera cups over the world received the car beginning March 2021. The new 992 cup car was completely different that its predecessor, even a new tire was introduced for the 992.
Gathering information during tests to have the optimal preparation for the Supercup, Carreracup Germany, Carreracup Benelux was important point for me.
As in almost all cup series the setup range is very small. The best way to go fast is to use and manage the tires optimally.
The Alsense Wired and Pro temperature sensors provided the engineers with absolutely critical information during this period of the pre-season tires. Understanding the tires early on gave us competitive edge! Also after the introduction of the new N3R rear tire, shortly after the start of the Porsche Carreracup Germany season, the Alsense sensors proved to be of crucial importance. In a short time, another set up had to be found to understand the N3R and get it into its working range.
That the GPELITE engineers had managed to find the right balance became apparent during the first Supercup weekend in Monaco in the preliminary program of F1. During official events it is not allowed to drive with additional sensors. The GPELITE engineers had tried various setup changes during various tests to get the tires in their optimal temperature range for qualifying as well as to keep the tires in the correct temperature range during the race. With this information, the correct set up was put on the car that led to a resounding pole position and a clear victory was the basis for the drivers and team championship of GPELITE.
The Alsense sensors were not only used to measure the tire temperature, but also Alsense sensors were used to measure the temperature of the brake discs. With the information gathered, the engineer was able to determine the correct brake balance as well as the correct amount of cooling. At the beginning of the pre-season it was allowed to tape off the brake cooling, during the year this was restricted by regulations. With the knowledge of the temperature that the brake discs developed could find the right brake balance.
In motorsports the whole package has to fit, using the right sensors is extremely important. The use of Alsense sensors is part of the package, perhaps a very important one in preparation for the race season
